Job summary

Coinbase, Inc. is seeking a Staff Software Engineer to own the FCM core architecture, spanning market data, order routing, settlement, reporting, and risk. Lead a major replatforming to next-gen architecture while maintaining hands-on coding and high standards.

You will partner with Product, Risk, Ops, Finance and Compliance to deliver auditable systems, mentor engineers, and raise the quality bar across the team in a regulated trading environment.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of backend engineering experience with production-grade distributed systems.
• Direct FCM or derivatives experience with ownership of futures trade lifecycle components.
• Proficiency in a modern backend language (Go preferred; Java or similar).
• Experience in regulated financial environments where correctness and auditability matter.
• Track record delivering end-to-end initiatives including replatforming while coding hands-on.
• Responsible use of generative AI with human oversight to improve workflows.

Responsibilities

• Own design and architecture across the FCM core from data to settlement and risk.
• Drive the next-gen replatforming and reduce legacy vendor dependencies while improving stability.
• Set the technical bar through reviews and standards, addressing critical debt.
• Collaborate with Product, Risk, Ops, Finance and Compliance to turn strategy into a roadmap.
• Mentor engineers and elevate code quality and architectural rigor.
