BUNNELL LAMMONS ENGINEERING in Asheville, NC, is seeking an Engineering Staff Associate to support environmental, civil, geotechnical, and construction material testing projects. You’ll assist senior staff, perform site investigations, and gain hands-on experience toward EIT/GIT licensure.

This entry-level role requires an ABET-accredited degree in civil, environmental, or geotechnical fields, 0-2 years of experience, and willingness to travel regionally.

Qualifications

• Associate’s degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, Environmental Science, or a closely related field of study from an ABET-accredited institution.
• 0-2 years of progressively responsible professional experience in relevant fields
• Currently in progress towards obtaining Engineer-in-Training (EIT) or Geologist-in-Training (GIT) certification.
• Required to travel regularly to local and regional project sites (typically within South Carolina and surrounding states), potentially including overnight stays and perform extensive fieldwork under varying environmental conditions, including adverse weather, uneven terrain, and potentially hazardous environments, while adhering strictly to health and safety protocols.

Responsibilities

• Perform technical analyses, calculations, and design for various engineering projects, including but not limited to site development, foundation design, retaining walls, earthwork, and pavements.
• Utilize engineering software and tools for design, modeling, and data analysis (e.g., AutoCAD, Civil 3D, GeoStudio, gINT, Tablogs).
• Perform site investigations, field inspections, and data collection to support project objectives.
• Draft exploration reports for review by senior professionals.
• Technical Expertise: Develop and apply foundational knowledge in environmental regulations, civil design principles, geotechnical investigations, and construction material testing.
• Client Relationship Management: Begin to understand the importance of client satisfaction. Assist in clear and concise communication with clients regarding project updates and data, always under the guidance of senior staff.
• Quality Control and Assurance: Adhere strictly to company and project-specific quality control procedures. Assist in reviewing data and reports for accuracy and completeness.
• Project Planning and Scheduling: Contribute to development of project work plans and schedules by assisting with task breakdown and resource allocation.
• Risk Management and Compliance: Develop an understanding of project-specific risks and assist in identifying potential hazards.
• Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work effectively as a supportive team member with engineers, scientists, geologists, and technicians.
• Contracts and Vendor Management: Gain exposure to project contracts and assist with initial stages of vendor coordination.
• Business Development: Support proposal preparation and data collection for marketing materials.
• Performance Analytics: Learn to track and report on project progress and time utilization.
