Job summary

Capital One is hiring Staff AI Engineer to build responsible and reliable AI systems. The role supports a remote-eligible arrangement with a focus on foundation model training, LLM inference, agents and multi-agent workflows, and observability across a broad AI stack.

You will collaborate with engineers, scientists, and product managers to deliver AI-powered products that transform how associates work and how customers interact with Capital One.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, AI, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related fields plus at least 8 years of AI/ML experience, or Master's + 6 years.
• At least 8 years of experience programming with Python, Go, Scala, CUDA, or Java

Responsibilities

• Partner with a cross‑functional team to deliver AI-powered products.
• Design, develop, test, deploy, and support AI software components.
• Leverage Open Source and SaaS AI technologies (AWS Ultraclusters, HuggingFace, VectorDBs, PyTorch).
• Invent foundation model optimization techniques for performance, latency, and cost.
• Contribute to the technical vision and long-term roadmap of foundational AI systems.
• Set technical direction for enterprise-wide AI architecture and standards.
• Own model routing, caching, and orchestration systems for hybrid workloads.
• Champion responsible AI principles—transparency and fairness-by-design.
• Drive internal education, mentorship, and dissemination of best practices.
