Job summary

Capital One is seeking a Staff AI Engineer to design and deploy AI-powered products that transform customer and associate experiences. You will work with engineers, scientists, PMs, and architects to advance foundation models, LLMs, and agent workflows using a broad stack of AI tools.

You’ll influence enterprise AI architecture, drive optimization techniques for performance and cost, and mentor teams across locations while upholding responsible AI principles.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's in CS/AI/EE/CE or related field with 6+/8+ years of AI/ML experience.
• 8+ years programming experience (Python, Go, Scala, CUDA, or Java).
• Experience designing AI systems with trade-offs on cost, latency, throughput, and accuracy.

Responsibilities

• Partner with cross-functional teams to deliver AI-powered products.
• Design, develop, test, deploy, and support AI software components (foundation models, LLM inference, agents).
• Leverage Open Source and SaaS AI tech (AWS Ultraclusters, Huggingface, VectorDBs, PyTorch).
• Invent optimization techniques for scalable, cost-efficient production AI systems.
• Contribute to the long-term technical vision and roadmap for foundational AI systems.
• Set enterprise-wide AI architecture direction across teams, tooling, observability, and deployment.
• Own model routing, caching, and orchestration for hybrid/multi-model workloads.
• Champion responsible AI: transparency, reproducibility, fairness-by-design.
• Drive internal education and dissemination of best practices via councils and guilds.
