Job summary

YES Prep Public Schools in Houston, TX is seeking a Special Education Teaching Assistant for a 10-month position beginning late summer. The TA will support Special Education and General Education teachers, manage behavior, and assist with IEP goals and accommodations.

The role emphasizes one-to-one support, data maintenance, and collaboration to ensure students access the curriculum and build essential skills in a fast-paced school environment.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED completed.
• 30 semester hours of college or post-secondary education credits.
• Current Educational Aide certification or willingness to obtain TEA certification.
• Interest in working one-on-one with a student with significant needs (medical needs included).
• Ability to physically assist students with self-help, mobility, academic, and behavioral tasks.
• Belief in and commitment to YES Prep Public Schools’ mission and core values.
• Openness to frequent feedback and ability to work under pressure.

Responsibilities

• Assist Special Education and General Education teachers with supervision of students in all instructional settings.
• Assist with behavior management techniques by modeling and reinforcing desired behaviors.
• Maintain data aligned with IEP goals and Behavior Intervention Plans.
• Tailor lessons to meet individual student needs.
• Support teachers with lesson plans by reinforcing concepts.
• Assist students with self-help and academic skills.
• Provide one-to-one full-time support for students with significant needs.
• Assist with administration and scoring of tests and assignments.
• Implement accommodations and modifications as needed.
• Adapt activities to support classroom objectives.
• Monitor students during transitions and daily routines.
• Provide personal care services as needed.
• Perform additional duties as assigned.

Education

High School Diploma or GED

30 semester hours college credits

Educational Aide certification or willingness to obtain TEA certification

Ability to work one-on-one with students with significant needs

Ability to assist physically with self-help, mobility, and academic tasks
