Job summary

YES Prep Public Schools in Houston, Texas seeks a Special Education Teaching Assistant for a 10-month role to support students with diverse needs. You will collaborate with Special Education and General Education teachers, implement behavior strategies, and help tailor instruction to individual goals.

This position provides hourly compensation and opportunities to work closely with students, families, and a dedicated school team within a mission-driven culture.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED is required.
• Minimum of 30 semester hours college/post-secondary education credit.
• Current Educational Aide certification or willingness to obtain TEA certification.
• Interest in one-on-one work with a student with significant needs, including medical needs.
• Ability to physically assist students with self-help, mobility, academic, and behavioral skills.
• Belief in YES Prep Public Schools' mission and core values.
• Openness to giving and receiving frequent feedback.
• Ability to work urgently in a fast-paced, results-oriented environment.
• Ability to juggle multiple tasks and initiatives.
• Demonstrated ability to work on a team.

Responsibilities

• Assist Special Education and General Education teachers with supervision of students in all instructional settings.
• Assist with behavior management techniques by modeling and reinforcing desired behaviors.
• Maintain data per teacher/IEP goals/Behavior Intervention Plans.
• Tailor lessons to meet individual student needs.
• Support lesson planning by practicing and reinforcing concepts.
• Assist students in performing self-help and academic skills.
• Provide one-to-one full-time support for a student with significant needs.
• Assist with administration and scoring of tests and assignments.
• Implement accommodations and modifications as directed.
• Adapt classroom activities to support objectives.
• Monitor students during transitions.
• Provide personal care services as needed.
• Perform additional duties as assigned.
