Job summary

YES Prep Public Schools in Houston, TX is seeking a Special Education Teaching Assistant. This 10-month, hourly role supports teachers, manages behavior, and helps tailor lessons to individual student needs.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED is required.
• Minimum of 30 semester hours of college or post-secondary education.
• Current Educational Aide certification, or willingness to obtain TEA certification.
• Interest in working one-on-one with students with significant needs.
• Ability to physically assist students with self-help, mobility, and academic/behavioral skills.
• Commitment to YES Prep Public Schools' mission and values.
• Openness to frequent feedback and continuous improvement.
• Ability to stay emotionally controlled under stress and work calmly in a fast-paced setting.

Responsibilities

• Assist Special Education and General Education teachers with supervising students in all settings.
• Aid in implementing behavior management techniques and reinforce positive behaviors.
• Maintain data aligned with IEP goals and Behavior Intervention Plans.
• Tailor lessons to individual student needs and support lesson planning.
• Help students develop self-help, academic, and transition skills.
• Provide one-to-one support for students with significant needs as required.
• Assist with administration and scoring of tests and assignments.
• Support with accommodations and/or modifications to classroom activities.
• Monitor students during transitions and adapt materials to objectives.
