Qualifications

• Paraprofessional Educator certificate issued by the Georgia PSC is required.
• High school diploma or GED and Praxis Parapro or GACE Parapro required; or 60 sem hrs / 90 qtr hrs PSC-approved college.
• Experience in a licensed child care environment preferred

Responsibilities

• Adapt classroom activities to support and reinforce IEP objectives and ensure participation.
• Administer first aid and medical assistance as instructed by a health care professional.
• Administer tests, homework, and make-up work to support teachers.
• Assist medically fragile or physically disabled students with personal hygiene.
• Assist students with disabilities with grooming, community access, and daily needs.
• Confer with teachers to assist in evaluating student progress and implementing IEP objectives.
• Implement and collect data under supervision of the assigned teacher and IEP teams.
• Monitor special education students to provide a safe and positive learning environment.
• Perform record keeping and support functions for the teacher.
• Provide instruction in various activities to reinforce instructional objectives.
• Respond to emergencies and apply crisis intervention procedures.
• Assist with monitoring duties (hallways, lunchroom, restrooms, bus duty).
• Perform other duties as assigned.
• Provide crisis intervention principles and procedures.
