Qualifications

• Knowledge of GCPS AKS curriculum with in-depth knowledge of content in field of certification.
• Knowledge of techniques for integrating curriculum, GCPS policies, and effective instructional practices
• Understanding of the teaching/learning process
• Ability to infuse technology into instruction to increase student learning
• Ability to work effectively with administrators, colleagues, central office, and school based staff, students, parents, and community
• Excellent oral and written communication and human relations skills
• Exemplary teaching and diagnostic assessment skills
• Mastery of subject area
• IDEIA knowledge and due process

Responsibilities

• Plan and provide for learning experiences for students based on the district AKS curriculum and create an environment conducive to their intellectual, physical, social, and emotional development.
• Demonstrate command of the subject being taught and provide instruction aligned with IEPs.
• Consult with classroom teachers and administrators to develop and maintain academic and behavioral management programs.
• Participate as an active faculty member, assuming school duties and contributing to professional development.
• Conduct in-service programs on special education, IDEA, and related topics.
• Collaborate with regular educators to support students with disabilities in general classrooms.
• Develop and prioritize long- and short-term instructional objectives; plan instruction to promote mastery of prerequisite skills.
• Evaluate, select, and modify resources reflecting research-based effective instruction.
• Oversee assessment activities, administer screenings, and communicate results to parents and teachers.
• Organize and present content logically, using an instructional sequence and research-based strategies.
• Provide formative and summative assessments and feedback to guide instruction.
• Create an organized learning environment and manage behavior to maximize student time on task.
• Assist with the physical needs of special education students when appropriate and ensure safe travel.
• Maintain compliance with IDEIA, eligibility processes, and required reporting.
