Chicago Public Schools is seeking a Special Education Classroom Assistant to support students with various disabilities under the guidance of a Special Education teacher. Applicants must hold a valid TASN paraprofessional license or have completed 60 college hours or a paraprofessional exam.

Qualifications

• Must possess a valid TASN (NCLB) paraprofessional license from ISBE or have completed 60 semester hours of college credit.
• Paraprofessional exam (Work Keys or Parapro) completion is acceptable.
• Good knowledge of the characteristics of students with disabilities and of English grammar, spelling, and basic mathematics.
• Ability to work with and for students with various disabilities ages birth to 21.
• Follow written and oral instructions; maintain basic written reports; CPR training is desirable.
• Strong oral and written communication skills; ability to operate photocopying and audio-visual equipment is desirable.

Responsibilities

• Assist Special Education teachers in reinforcing instruction for students with disabilities in elementary and high schools.
• Assist in lifting and positioning non-ambulatory students as instructed and per physician guidance.
• Provide one-on-one tutoring and assist with daily living skills and personal hygiene needs.
• Assist with instruments, tools, wheelchairs, and equipment used by students in classrooms.
• Record student behavior and assist teachers with class documentation and field trips.
