Job summary

Chicago Public Schools is seeking a Special Education Classroom Assistant to support students with disabilities under the supervision of teachers. The role includes one-on-one tutoring, assisting with daily living skills, and helping implement IEP goals in elementary and high schools.

Candidate must hold a valid TASN paraprofessional license (ISBE) or equivalent, with strong communication and CPR training as a desirable qualification.

Qualifications

• Good knowledge of characteristics of students with various disabilities.
• Good knowledge of English grammar and spelling.
• Good knowledge of basic mathematics.
• Ability to work with students with disabilities; follow instructions; complete basic written reports.
• CPR training is highly desirable and may be required.

Responsibilities

• Assist in reinforcing instruction for students with disabilities in various subjects.
• Provide one-on-one tutoring and personal hygiene assistance as needed.
• Assist in daily living skills and use of equipment to support independence.
• accompany students on trips and help with behavior records.
• Attend workshops and in-service training to update skills.
