Job summary

Chicago Public Schools seeks a Special Education Classroom Assistant to support students with disabilities under a licensed teacher. Responsibilities include one-on-one tutoring, personal hygiene tasks, and assisting with daily living skills in classrooms and during activities.

You will reinforce instruction per each student’s IEP, document behavioral notes, and accompany classes on field trips, while staying engaged in ongoing staff trainings and job skill development.

Qualifications

• Must possess a valid ISBE paraprofessional license or obtain after 60 college credits or paraprofessional exam.
• Knowledge of disability characteristics and supports utilized in IEPs.
• Ability to follow written and oral instructions and maintain basic written reports.

Responsibilities

• Assist in instruction of students with various disabilities under IEPs.
• Provide one-on-one tutoring and personal hygiene services as required.
• Assist in daily living skills and use of assistive tools and equipment.
• Take notes, correct homework, and maintain behavior records.
• Accompany students on class field trips and participate in training sessions.
