Job summary

Chicago Public Schools is seeking a Special Education Classroom Assistant to support students with diverse disabilities under the supervision of a licensed Special Education teacher. The role involves one-on-one tutoring, daily living skills training, note-taking, and assistance during activities, field trips, and clinical visits.

The candidate should hold a valid paraprofessional license or be able to obtain one, have CPR training, and demonstrate strong written and spoken English.

Qualifications

• Must possess valid TASN (NCLB) paraprofessional license from ISBE or equivalent.
• Completion of at least 60 semester hours or successful paraprofessional exam.
• Good knowledge of the characteristics of students with various disabilities and English grammar.

Responsibilities

• Assist in instruction of disabled students under supervision.
• Provide one-on-one tutoring to reinforce learning concepts.
• Assist with daily living skills and personal care as required.
• Take notes in classrooms for students who need help.
• Maintain records of student behavior and progress.
• Participate in workshops to update job-related skills.
