Job summary

Chicago Public Schools in Chicago is seeking a Special Education Classroom Assistant to support teachers in delivering instruction to students with disabilities. Under supervision, you will assist with daily living activities, transportation to activities, and one-on-one tutoring to reinforce concepts.

The role requires either a valid ISBE paraprofessional license or 60 college credits, plus familiarity with IEPs, behavior logs, and documentation.

Qualifications

• Certification: valid TASN (NCLB) paraprofessional license from ISBE, or 60 semester hours of college credit, or paraprofessional exam (Work Keys/Parapro).
• Knowledge of disabilities, English grammar and spelling, and basic math.
• CPR training highly desirable; complete CPR training if not yet completed.

Responsibilities

• Reinforce instruction for students with various disabilities under supervision.
• Assist with non-ambulatory students, positioning and daily living tasks as directed.
• Provide one-on-one tutoring and personal hygiene support as needed.
• Assist in recording student behavior and maintaining logs and reports.
• Accompany students on trips and assist with class activities and field trips.
• Attend workshops and in-service training to update job skills.
