Job summary

Chicago Public Schools is seeking a Special Education Classroom Assistant to support teachers in elementary and high schools, reinforcing learning for students with disabilities and assisting with daily living tasks.

The role includes one-on-one tutoring, note-taking, behavior observation, and help with transportation to activities, with CPR training preferred and a paraprofessional license required.

Qualifications

• Good knowledge of the characteristics of students with various disabilities.
• Good knowledge of English grammar and spelling.
• Ability to work with and for students with various disabilities and ages birth to 21.

Responsibilities

• Assist in instruction for students with various disabilities per IEP.
• Provide one-on-one tutoring and support daily living skills.
• Assist with feeding, hygiene, and mobility as directed.
• Record student behavior and progress; take notes in class.
• Accompany students on field trips and to medical appointments.
• Assist with classroom setup and equipment, including assistive devices.
