Job summary

Selective Insurance Company of America is seeking an experienced Small Business Underwriter to focus on new production within an assigned territory and to support agents with underwriting guidance. You will work with field underwriting staff and agencies to capitalize on growth opportunities while ensuring adherence to underwriting standards.

You will travel within the territory (approximately 10-20%), mentor team members, monitor premium growth, and collaborate with internal partners to deliver

Qualifications

• 3-5 years of underwriting and/or marketing experience preferred.
• College degree preferred.
• AU, CIC, CPCU designation preferred.

Responsibilities

• Underwrite new small business production in assigned territory.
• Quote, accept, decline and modify risks within authority per guidelines.
• Apply coverage, rating forms and guidelines to pricing decisions.
• Answer agent inquiries on coverage, billing, and policy changes.
• Collaborate with Agents, Regional Underwriters and AMS to grow a profitable small business book.
• Drive agent adoption of technology through CLAS training.
• Monitor premium growth and analyze territory performance.
• Mentor and train new Small Business Underwriters.
• Stay informed on industry trends and competitive practices.
• Travel 10-20% within territory.
