Job summary

General Dynamics NASSCO in Norfolk, VA, seeks a Temp Foreman for 0600-0245 shift to lead a crew of 8–30 mechanics and subcontractors in ship repair and fabrication.

You will plan manpower, monitor safety, quality, schedule and budget, review progress, assign daily tasks, and ensure compliance with the Collective Bargaining Agreement. On-site naval shipyard environment; travel and overtime possible.

Qualifications

• BA/BS or AA/AS with related shipbuilding/ship repair experience (8 years) or 2+ years depending on degree.
• In-depth knowledge of ship repair, contracting and estimating procedures.
• Knowledge of production processes, methods, quality, and technology.
• Strong leadership, communication and teamwork abilities.
• Proven ability to work effectively with people.
• Proficient with Microsoft Office products.

Responsibilities

• On-site deck-plate leader for the trade, directing 8–30 mechanics and subcontractors.
• Plan manpower requirements and communicate needs to General Foreman.
• Review schedules and develop 1–2 week plans for the team.
• Assign daily work, monitor performance and provide feedback.
• Ensure compliance with contract terms and safety standards.
• Inspect completed work to verify quality and adherence to specs.
• Participate in daily production meetings and coordinate with other shops.
• Lead continuous improvement initiatives and address issues promptly.
