Job summary

General Dynamics NASSCO in Norfolk, VA, seeks a Pipe Shop Foreman for the day shift to lead a crew of journeymen, trainees, and subcontractors. Must access Navy installations with DBIDS/NAVSEA badges and work 0600-0245.

Responsibilities include planning manpower, scheduling, and ensuring safety, quality, and cost controls while coordinating with the General Foreman and other shops. Candidate should have ship repair knowledge and strong leadership abilities.

Qualifications

BA/BS + 2 years in related field or AA/AS + 4 years related experience or 8 years directly related ship building/ship repair experience.
In-depth knowledge in ship repair.
Knowledge of contracting and estimating procedures.
Demonstrated leadership, communication, and team-building skills.
Proficient in Microsoft products.

Responsibilities

On-site deck-plate lead for the trade, supervising 8–30 mechanics to meet safety, quality, schedule, and cost goals.
Plan manpower requirements and communicate with the General Foreman.
Review Gantt schedules and develop 1–2 week plans for team tasks.
Develop daily work assignments and monitor performance.
Ensure proper supervision, tooling, drawings, and procedures for all jobs.
Participate in daily production meetings and coordinate across shops to meet goals.
Monitor rework trends and drive continuous improvement.
