Job summary

Potbelly is looking for a Shift Leader to join our Burke, VA location. You will lead a shift, manage associates, ensure product quality and customer service, and help control costs on a fast-paced line.

The role requires at least 1 year of supervisory experience in a restaurant or retail setting, strong communication skills, and a Food Safety Certification. You must be able to stand long hours and lift up to 50 pounds while maintaining a friendly, customer-first approach.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 18 years old.
• Minimum 1 year supervisory experience in a restaurant or retail environment preferred.
• Must pass and obtain a Food Safety Certification; Illinois applicants must certify within 30 days of employment.
• Friendly, customer-first mindset for a fast-paced, energetic environment.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Enjoy problem-solving and adaptability in a bustling kitchen.
• Able to stand 8–9 hours and lift up to 50 pounds.
• Kitchen knife skills are a plus.

Responsibilities

• Lead team members on shifts, assign tasks, and provide feedback.
• Ensure security procedures are followed.
• Maintain back-of-house procedural standards.
• Count drawers and handle cash procedures.
• Prepare quality finished products efficiently.
• Adhere to health and safety standards for food and cleanliness.
• Restock food line, chips and cooler.
• Clean tables, counters, floors, bathrooms, kitchen and utensils; take out trash.
• Operate cash register and balance cash handling procedures.
• Effectively handle customer complaints and issues.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
