Job summary

Volunteers of America–Greater New York seeks an Operations Manager/Shift Supervisor to oversee daily shelter operations at The Schwartz Assessment Shelter on Ward's Island, NY. You will supervise front-line staff, manage intake and bed assignments, and coordinate case management to ensure safe, compassionate service.

The role requires a high school diploma or GED, plus at least one year in a social services setting, strong interpersonal skills, basic computer knowledge, and security and Fire

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED preferred plus one year of relevant experience.
• Good interpersonal skills and basic computer knowledge.
• Certifications in security required and Fire Safety (F-80) obtained within 3 months of hire.

Responsibilities

• Supervise delivery of program services including intake, bed assignments, case management services, distribution of client mail, lockers, meal cards and medication.
• Ensure optimal customer service is being provided to clients.
• Ensure recreation activities are occurring.
• Ensures the facility is adequately staffed at all times.
• Work with DHS PD to ensure the daily security and safety of the facility.
• Supervise facility maintenance, cleaning staff and fire safety.
• Manage community relations and communicate with relevant authorities as needed.
