Job summary

The Salvation Army in New York is seeking a Shift Supervisor to manage the flow of people in and out of the facility and ensure the safety of clients and staff while complying with all rules.

This role involves reporting to the Senior Shift Supervisor, taking on on-site operations in the absence of the Administrator, logging client entries, coordinating with DHS/HERO, and overseeing crisis response and daily shelter routines.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• NYS 8-hour pre-assignment certificate required.
• NYS Security License and 16-hour security certificate required.
• CPR, First Aid and Fire Safety Coordinator certifications must be obtained within three months.

Responsibilities

• Manage the flow of people in and out of the facility and ensure safety.
• Report to Senior Shift Supervisor regarding care and operational issues.
• Assume facility management in the absence of Administrator.
• Ensure clients log in/out and visitors register; supervise arrival/departure of children.
• Respond to incidents within time-sensitive DHS and TSA guidelines.
• Ensure clients comply with the DHS Code of Conduct.
• Engage clients and staff; intervene during noncompliance.
• In absence of maintenance staff, address facility concerns.
• Coordinate referrals and new intakes with DHS/HERO and accept referrals.
• Provide initial intake, accompany clients to units, and supply essentials.
• Provide orientation to all new admissions.
• Oversee distribution of food from onsite pantry.
• Conduct drills and evacuations; maintain records; supervise grounds and residents.
• Maintain visible presence on shift; log vehicle usage and complete sign outs.
