Job summary

The Salvation Army Northern Division Harbor Light Center in Minneapolis is seeking a Housing Advocate to provide direct support to adults experiencing homelessness, building relationships, offering advocacy, and ensuring a welcoming shelter environment.

You will help participants navigate shelter expectations, access services, respond to crises, and maintain accurate records. The role requires collaboration with internal colleagues to support initiatives and long-term stability.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Minimum of one year of experience supporting individuals, preferably in a homeless shelter or other client- or customer-focused setting.
• Must successfully pass all required background checks.
• Valid driver’s license and ability to meet MVR requirements preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provide compassionate, person-centered support to adult participants and assist with navigating shelter policies.
• Recordkeeping: maintain intake and incident reports per organizational standards.
• Promote engagement in available programs and connect participants with social services.
• Collaborate with colleagues to support Harbor Light Center initiatives and local resource connections.
