Job summary

The Salvation Army Harbor Light Center in Minneapolis is seeking a Housing Advocate to provide direct support to adults experiencing homelessness, build relationships, advocate for participants, and ensure a safe, welcoming shelter environment.

You will assist with navigating shelter expectations, recording accurate data, and promoting engagement in community services and programs. This role requires empathy, teamwork, and strong organizational skills.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Minimum of one year of experience supporting individuals, preferably in a shelter or client-focused setting.
• Must pass all required background checks.
• Valid driver’s license and ability to meet MVR requirements preferred.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills with diverse populations.
• Ability to work collaboratively in a team and accept supervision.
• Sensitivity to homelessness, addiction, unemployment, and diversity.
• Demonstrates professionalism and discretion in handling confidential information.
• Highly organized with attention to detail and reliable work ethic.
• Proficient in computers and basic software (Microsoft Office, data entry).

Responsibilities

• Provide direct support to adults experiencing homelessness; advocate and ensure a safe shelter environment.
• Assist participants with navigating shelter policies and crises.
• Maintain accurate records, intakes, and incident reports.
