Job summary

Community Advocates seeks compassionate Shelter Advocates for the Milwaukee Women's Shelter and Autumn West Safe Haven. The 2nd shift (2 pm-10 pm) requires weekend and holiday coverage; holiday work earns time and a half.

Responsibilities include crisis-line documentation, intakes, shift reporting, and ensuring safety across the shelter. Related duties involve collaboration with staff, residents, volunteers, and external partners.

Qualifications

• Experience related to domestic violence, social work or residential programs.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Knowledge of crisis intervention and trauma-informed care.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Proficient verbal and written communication; active listening.

Responsibilities

• Answer the 24-hour crisis line/211 referrals and document calls.
• Complete intakes for families and tours during intake.
• Update shift reports and inform supervisors and managers.
• Maintain cleanliness and order of the shelter.
• Conduct room inspections and rounds to ensure safety.
• Report incident details to managers and COO; act professionally with staff and clients.
• Collaborate to meet shelter goals and mission.
• Perform other tasks as assigned by supervisor.
