Job summary

Speechify is seeking a Senior Windows Desktop Engineer to lead architecture and development of high-performance Windows apps using Windows App SDK and WinUI. You will collaborate with product/design/QA to deliver accessible software that scales for millions of users in a distributed, remote environment.

You will own feature delivery from conception to maintenance, drive technical decisions, mentor engineers, and champion accessibility and responsive UI across Windows platforms.

Qualifications

• 3+ years Windows desktop app development with Windows App SDK/WinUI and C#, XAML; native code experience (C++, Win32/WinRT/COM) is a plus.
• Deep understanding of Windows app architecture and interop between managed and native code.
• Proven track record shipping production desktop apps with focus on reliability, performance, scalability, and maintainability.
• Strong experience with accessibility APIs and building accessible software.
• Solid fundamentals in OOP, design patterns, data structures, algorithms, memory management, and multi-threading/async programming.
• Experience leading technical design, mentoring engineers, code reviews, and architecture decisions.
• Excellent communication to articulate tradeoffs and collaborate with cross-functional teams.
• User-centric mindset focused on polished, intuitive, accessible experiences.

Responsibilities

• Lead the design, architecture, and development of native Windows desktop applications using Windows App SDK, WinUI, C#, XAML, and C++.
• Define and enforce best-practices for Windows desktop development across the codebase: architecture, performance, memory usage, responsive UI, cross-version compatibility (Windows 10/11+), and maintainability.
• Drive accessibility efforts: integrate and validate accessibility APIs and ensure UI controls, focus management, keyboard navigation, screen-reader support.
• Collaborate with product designers, UX researchers, QA, and stakeholders to shape feature planning and long-term roadmaps for the Windows platform.
• Take ownership of full lifecycle of features: conception → design → implementation → testing → release → maintenance.
• Identify, diagnose, and resolve complex bugs, performance bottlenecks, memory leaks, rendering issues, and propose robust solutions.
