Job summary

Volkert, Inc. is seeking a Senior Transportation Project Manager to lead transportation projects across Alabama, Mississippi, and Tennessee. You will oversee roadway design, traffic operations, and client relationships while managing scopes, schedules, budgets, and staffing.

The role requires a PE license and 10+ years in roadway design, traffic engineering, or transportation planning, with experience working with state DOTs and a strong leadership skillset.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited program.
• Professional Engineer (PE) license.
• 10+ years of relevant experience in roadway design, traffic engineering, and/or transportation planning.
• Experience with state DOTs and ability to meet DOT standards, schedules, budgets.
• Proficiency with OpenRoads Designer, Geopak, and traffic tools (Synchro, VISSIM, SIDRA, HCS).
• Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
• Valid driver’s license and ability to pass pre-employment drug screening.

Responsibilities

• Lead transportation projects for state DOTs and local municipalities, including roadway design and traffic operations.
• Serve as the primary client contact, building relationships with DOTs, municipalities, and stakeholders.
• Develop and manage scopes, schedules, budgets, and staffing for successful delivery.
• Prepare, issue, and track project documentation, contracts, change orders, and approvals.
• Oversee financial performance: forecasting, invoicing, PO, AR.
• Prepare correspondence, reports, meeting minutes, and presentations.
• Support project submittals, bidding activities, and QA/QC processes.
• Mentor project teams and foster collaboration and technical excellence.
• Support business development with proposals and client engagement.
• Collaborate with regional leadership on strategic growth initiatives.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
