Job summary

Volkert, Inc. is seeking an experienced Senior Transportation Project Manager to lead major transportation initiatives across Alabama, Mississippi, and Tennessee.

You will manage roadways, traffic analyses, and long-range plans while serving as the primary client contact with state DOTs and municipalities. The role requires a PE license, a strong background in roadway design and traffic engineering, and a proven record of delivering complex projects on time and within budget.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited program
• Professional Engineer (PE) license
• 10+ years of relevant experience in roadway design, traffic engineering, and/or transportation planning
• Experience working with state DOTs, with a proven ability to meet DOT standards, schedules, and budgets
• Strong knowledge of DOT design methods, plan preparation, standards, and specifications
• Demonstrated success managing medium to large, complex, or multi-office projects and client relationships
• Proficiency with discipline-relevant software, such as OpenRoads Designer and Geopak for roadway design, or Synchro, VISSIM, SIDRA, and HCS for traffic engineering
• Strong leadership, communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills
• Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screening to ensure a safe and productive work environment
• Valid driver’s license and a satisfactory motor vehicle report (MVR)

Responsibilities

• Lead the delivery of transportation projects for state DOTs and local municipalities, including roadway design, plan review, traffic operations analysis, and long-range planning
• Serve as the primary client point of contact, building and maintaining relationships with DOTs, municipalities, and stakeholders
• Develop and manage project scopes, schedules, budgets, and staffing plans
• Prepare, issue, and track project documentation, including contracts and change orders
• Oversee project financial performance, including forecasting and invoicing
• Prepare correspondence, reports, meeting minutes, and presentations for clients and regulators
• Support project submittals and bidding activities
• Ensure QA/QC processes are followed and documented
• Guide and mentor project teams, fostering collaboration and technical excellence
• Support business development, including proposals and client engagement
• Collaborate with regional leadership on growth initiatives
• Perform other duties as assigned
