Job summary

Volkert Inc. is seeking an experienced Senior Transportation Project Manager to lead statewide transportation initiatives in the Gulf region, including Alabama, Mississippi, and Tennessee.

You will manage road projects, coordinate with DOTs and municipalities, and oversee scope, schedule, budget, and staffing. The role requires PE licensure and 10+ years in roadway design, traffic engineering, and planning, with strong leadership and client-management skills.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited program.
• Professional Engineer (PE) license.
• 10+ years of relevant experience in roadway design, traffic engineering, and/or transportation planning.
• Experience working with state DOTs, with a proven ability to meet DOT standards, schedules, and budgets.
• Strong knowledge of DOT design methods, plan preparation, standards, and specifications, or of traffic engineering and transportation planning principles.
• Demonstrated success managing medium to large, complex, or multi-office projects and client relationships.
• Proficiency with discipline-relevant software such as OpenRoads Designer and Geopak for roadway design, or Synchro, VISSIM, SIDRA, and HCS for traffic engineering.
• Strong leadership, communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screening to ensure a safe and productive work environment.
• Valid driver's license and a satisfactory motor vehicle report (MVR).

Responsibilities

• Lead the delivery of transportation projects for state DOTs and local municipalities, which may include roadway design, plan review, traffic operations analysis, signal design and timing, corridor studies, safety evaluations, and long-range planning.
• Serve as the primary client point of contact, building and maintaining strong relationships with DOTs, municipalities, and key stakeholders.
• Develop and manage project scopes, schedules, budgets, and staffing plans to ensure successful project delivery.
• Prepare, issue, and track project documentation, including contracts, change orders, and client approvals, for all phases of work.
• Oversee project financial performance, including forecasting, invoicing, purchase orders, and accounts receivable.
• Prepare correspondence, reports, meeting minutes, and presentations for clients, vendors, and regulatory agencies.
• Support project submittals and bidding activities.
• Ensure quality assurance and quality control processes are followed and documented.
• Guide and mentor project teams, fostering collaboration, accountability, and technical excellence.
• Support business development efforts, including proposal development and marketing to municipal and DOT clients.
• Collaborate with regional leadership on strategic growth initiatives.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
