Job summary

Vertex Inc is seeking a senior technical support escalation engineer to resolve highly complex issues across data-driven applications and databases. You will mentor peers, maintain knowledge resources, and collaborate with product, engineering, and support teams to ensure customer success.

The role requires strong SQL, REST/SOAP, Linux/Unix expertise and experience with Oracle and SAP environments. West Coast hours are preferred, with on-call rotations and a focus on customer outcomes.

Qualifications

• 6+ years of relevant experience in technical support, application troubleshooting, or systems engineering.
• Ideally located on the West Coast or able to work Pacific Time Zone hours.
• Strong SQL and relational database experience; REST and SOAP API/web services; Oracle and SAP environments; Linux/Unix exposure.
• Troubleshooting data-driven applications connected to relational databases, XML sources, and high-volume web services.
• Networking protocols and debugging skills across technologies and languages.
• Linux/Unix, shell scripting, FTP scripting, and scheduling tools.
• Proven ability to manage high-stakes customer escalations.
• Master’s degree in STEM encouraged.

Responsibilities

• Serve as the final escalation point for highly complex customer issues.
• Provide advanced troubleshooting for data-driven applications, databases, APIs, Java, Linux.
• Act as a Customer Support liaison during pre- and post-implementation phases.
• Partner with product, engineering, and support teams to communicate customer needs.
• Develop scalable support processes and standards.
• Provide leadership and mentorship to less senior staff; manage escalations from Tier2 analysts.
• Create and maintain technical knowledge base articles and best practices.
• Maintain shared support environments and fulfill on-call duties on rotation.
