Job summary

RTX seeks a Principal System Safety Engineer to lead MIL-STD-882E compliant safety programs across the system lifecycle. You will interpret requirements, manage safety tasks, and collaborate with engineering teams to ensure hazard elimination and compliance.

You will oversee budgets, perform EVM coordination, and mentor early-career engineers while interfacing with program leadership and government customers. This is a U.S.-based, on-site role in Aurora, CO.

Qualifications

• Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and a minimum of 8 years of prior relevant experience.
• Experience developing and implementing MIL-STD-882E System Safety Program tasks and analyses.
• Experience writing technical reports and presentations.
• Experience briefing safety status to safety approval authorities at technical reviews or safety boards.
• Experience managing or owning a safety program.

Responsibilities

• Develop and implement MIL-STD-882E system safety programs, including management, analysis, evaluation, and verification tasks.
• Interpret system requirements, customer specifications, and military standards to recommend compliance strategies.
• Create and manage safety strategies, integrate tasks into the IMS, and ensure contract and funding compliance.
• Oversee safety budgets and execution, including Earned Value Management and coordination with CAMs, IPTLs, and product owners.
• Provide mentorship to early-career safety engineers.
• Engage in design change boards to assess safety impacts.
• Coordinate and lead System Safety Working Groups with internal and external stakeholders.
• Collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams to identify and mitigate risks.
• Conduct safety analyses of designs, drawings, and system requirements for fault tolerance.
• Manage safety considerations across all lifecycle phases from design to disposal.
• Innovate and implement improved safety solutions to enhance safety culture.
