Job summary

Sargent & Lundy is seeking a Senior System Protection Engineer to join our Grid Services team. You will lead system protection engineering activities, including relay settings, protection philosophies, and power system studies, with a role supporting and reviewing substation P&C design for HV transmission projects.

Responsibilities include fault studies, relay coordination, and development of protection settings using CAPE/ASPEN, plus use of vendor software like SEL AcSELerator.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET‑accredited program (or equivalent).
• 7+ years of experience in system protection engineering for transmission and/or substation projects (relay settings and protection studies).
• Strong background in system protection and relay logic (line, transformer, bus, capacitor/reactor protection philosophies).
• Experience with fault studies and relay coordination using CAPE and/or ASPEN (or equivalent).
• Proficiency with protection configuration tools (SEL AcSELerator, EnerVista, other OEM software).

Responsibilities

• Perform system protection studies: short‑circuit analysis, relay coordination, time‑current curves.
• Configure, set, and troubleshoot microprocessor‑based protective relays using vendor software.
• Manage relay records and settings in Powerbase or similar databases.
• Review P&C design documents: one‑lines, three‑lines, schematics, wiring/logic diagrams.
• Support commissioning, field energization, and issue resolution during construction and startup.
