Job summary

Carle Health is seeking a Surgical Technologist to support direct and indirect surgical care. You will assist the surgeon, prepare instruments, and maintain a sterile field across diverse procedures. The role requires mentoring peers and contributing to efficient case flow.

Qualifications include an Associate’s Degree in Surgical Technology or a Certificate of Completion, and BLS certification. On-call shifts and teamwork are integral to success in this fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

• BLS certification within 30 days from American Heart Association.
• Certificate of Completion in Surgical Technology required.
• Associate's Degree in Surgical Technology required.

Responsibilities

• Preparation for surgeon-specific operative/invasive procedures that’s timely, accurate, effective and efficient.
• Instruments, equipment and sutures are appropriate, complete and functional.
• Sets up sterile field and is scrubbed prior to patient entering the room.
• Sets up case so that another can step into an organized back table and mayo.
• Has appropriate items available for cases and uses resources wisely.
• Motions are fluid and not redundant; adapts to case needs.
• Collaborates with surgeon prior to case and adjusts as necessary.
• Precepts surgical techs and RNs to prepare for surgeon-specific procedures; scrubs on simple to complex procedures.
• Able to run mayo independently; aligns with surgeon’s techniques and preferences.
• Demonstrates calm, confident, and steady performance during routine and emergency procedures.
• Attends to intra-op events and provides timely interventions as needed.
• Precepts staff and students in planning for surgical events and mentoring.
