Job summary

WSP is seeking an Experienced Substation Structural Engineer to support the Power Delivery Substation Civil/Structural Group. The role focuses on planning, design, and delivery of structural solutions for electrical substations in public and private sectors across multiple U.S.

locations including New York, Syracuse, and beyond. You will analyze site data, perform structural assessments, and develop reports while collaborating with engineers, architects, and planners.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Structural or Civil Engineering or closely related discipline.
• 5 to 7 years of relevant post-education experience in engineering with prior structural or civil design exposure.
• Engineer in Training Certification.
• Knowledge of structural engineering principles, practices, processes, and application to project work.
• Experience with infrastructure planning, design, and construction management; including rehabilitation and new design.
• Ability to coordinate with agency regulators and understand requirements.
• Knowledge of sustainability concepts and reducing hazardous substances/ghg.
• Familiarity with relevant codes, regulations, and record-keeping requirements.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills for engineering and non-engineering audiences.
• Detail-oriented, able to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic environment.
• Proficiency in technical writing, spreadsheets, and design software.

Responsibilities

• Collect and analyze data from sites, surveys, blueprints, GIS data, and related sources for project development.
• Perform professional structural engineering work, research site conditions, and verify conformance with standards and permits.
• Incorporate advanced modeling techniques and design requirements for safe, functional structures.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to layout installations, establish elevations, and guide construction.
• Verify site characteristics to ensure structural soundness under loads and environmental factors.
• Prepare tables, charts, reports, and 2D/3D visuals for data interpretation and presentation.
• Maintain quality control and accurate measurements, statistics, and reporting.
• Assist with scoping and development of small-to-medium projects.
• Contribute to technical reports that address design and construction issues.
• Support site health and safety plan development and implementation.
• Travel as required for project-specific needs.
