Job summary

WSP is seeking an Experienced Substation Structural Engineer for our Power Delivery Civil/Structural Group. The role supports projects in Freeport, ME or other U.S. locations including NY and MI; involves design, analysis, and delivery of structural solutions for electrical substations.

You will work with a cross-functional team, conduct studies, develop models, and prepare technical reports while mentoring junior staff and ensuring safety and quality across projects.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Structural or Civil Engineering or closely related discipline.
• 5 to 7 years of relevant post-education experience in engineering with prior structural or civil design.
• Engineer in Training Certification.
• Knowledge of structural engineering principles and design/build processes.
• Experience with infrastructure planning, design, and construction management.
• Ability to coordinate with agency regulators and understand requirements.
• Knowledge of sustainability concepts and reducing hazardous substances/greenhouse gas.
• Familiarity with structural/civil construction laws and regulations.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills for engineering and non-engineering audiences.
• Self-leadership, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple priorities.
• Proficiency with technical writing, office software, and engineering tools.
• Experience with discipline-specific design software (MicroStation, AutoCAD, Civil 3D, ArcGIS, InRoads, Geopak, GeoSlope, ANSYS, STADD, HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS).

Responsibilities

• Provide planning, analysis, design, and delivery of structural solutions for substations.
• Research, design concepts, planning, and construction of load-bearing structures and foundations.
• Generate reports and documentation on materials, installations, and specs.
• Collaborate with engineers, architects, planners, and scientists to execute projects.
• Mentor junior team members and ensure adherence to safety and quality standards.
• Prepare data visualizations and technical presentations for project stakeholders.
