Job summary

WSP USA is seeking an Experienced Substation Structural Designer for our Power Delivery Substation Civil/Structural Group. This role supports the Freeport, ME office and additional locations across the US, offering exposure to a broad range of projects.

You will analyze site data, work with engineers in 3D CAD, ensure designs meet codes, and prepare precise drawings. Travel may be required, with a focus on safety and quality.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma required; associate degree preferred.
• 7+ years post-education drafting/design experience.
• Knowledge of drafting/design principles and codes.
• Ability to perform geometric calculations and interpret plans.
• Strong written and verbal communication for technical audiences.
• Detail-oriented with multitasking and prioritization.
• Ability to work independently or in a team.
• Proficiency with CAD, 3D modeling, and office software.
• Safety-focused with willingness to travel occasionally.

Responsibilities

• Collect and analyze site data to support drafting and design activities.
• Use 3D CAD and coordinate with engineers to resolve design details and prepare drawings.
• Follow standards to ensure proper illustration, fit, form, and function.
• Verify calculations and interpret contract plans for accuracy.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams on project drafting.
• Ensure plans comply with city, state, and federal codes.
• Prepare multiple design versions for review by engineers.
• Specify materials and procedures to meet contract requirements.
• Coordinate with engineers on project phases and tasks.
• Apply analytical methods to solve engineering problems and modify designs.
• Communicate with client/contractor as needed for design support.
