Job summary

Sargent & Lundy is seeking a senior structural engineer to apply expertise in materials, structural analysis, steel design, and reinforced concrete design to power transmission modifications and upgrades. You will prepare calculations, design documents, and specifications as part of a multidisciplinary team.

The role includes client interfacing, development of design solutions, and producing technical documentation with opportunities for relocation assistance and generous benefits.

Qualifications

• BSCE or MSCE from ABET-accredited program with strong background in behavior of materials, structural analysis, structural steel design, and reinforced concrete design.
• 10+ years of experience as a practicing structural engineer, preferably in substations design/upgrade.
• Ability to communicate effectively with the client with appropriate level of technical detail.
• Ability to visit client sites for scoping meetings.
• Experience in writing and providing support documentation for structural calculations.
• Ability to complete assignments within budget and schedule with high accuracy.
• Knowledge of practical structural engineering applications including analysis for supports, loads, and design integrity.
• Experience with design techniques, tools, and standards for plans, drawings, models.
• Proficiency with MathCad, STAAD PRO, SAP2000, SAFE, RISA 3D, RISA Floor.
• Familiarity with IBC, ASCE 7, AISC, ACI 318.
• Excellent written, verbal, interpersonal communication.

Responsibilities

• Investigate, trouble-shoot, and solve structural engineering issues.
• Perform structural analysis and detailed design of steel frames, connections, concrete members, equipment, and foundations.
• Develop integrated structural designs and supporting calculations.
• Interface with the client and communicate technical information.
• Prepare technical specifications for structural materials.
• Review work performed by others, including calculations and drawings.
• Coordinate with engineers, project managers, client personnel, and suppliers to ensure timely design.
• Review existing facilities to propose upgrades and present findings and recommendations.
• Develop career via peer-learning through Communities of Practice at Sargent & Lundy.
• Travel to client and vendor offices for design reviews and to substations for construction coordination and field verification.
