Job summary

Sargent & Lundy is seeking a senior structural engineer to apply expertise in materials behavior, structural analysis, and design of steel frames and concrete members for power substations. You will collaborate with an engineering team, interface with clients, and develop calculations and specifications.

The role includes travel to client sites and hybrid work three days in the office, two remote days. ABET-accredited degree and 5+ years’ experience required; fluency in English and Spanish

Qualifications

• Requires ABET-accredited BSCE/MSCE with strong materials behavior, structural analysis, steel/concrete design.
• 5+ years as practicing structural engineer in substation design.
• Ability to communicate with clients with appropriate technical detail.
• Willingness to visit client sites for scoping meetings.
• Experience writing support documentation for structural calculations.
• Must complete assignments within budget and schedule with accuracy.
• Knowledge of structural analysis for supports, loads and design integrity.
• Proficiency with MathCad, STAAD PRO, SAP2000, SAFE, RISA 3D and RISA Floor.
• Familiarity with IBC, ASCE 7, AISC, ACI 318.
• Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication.
• Bilingual Spanish and English.

Responsibilities

• Investigate, troubleshoot, and solve varied structural engineering issues.
• Perform structural analysis and design of steel frames, concrete members, equipment, and foundations.
• Develop integrated designs and supporting calculations for planned work.
• Interface with client and communicate technical information.
• Prepare specifications for structural materials.
• Review work of others and provide guidance to team.
• Coordinate with engineers, PMs, client personnel, and suppliers.
• Review existing facilities to propose upgrades and present findings.
• Collaborate through Communities of Practice to share knowledge.
• Travel to client/vendor offices for design reviews and field verification.
