Job summary

Sargent & Lundy in the United States seeks a senior structural engineer to design and analyze structures for power transmission projects, including steel frames, concrete members, and foundations. You will develop calculations, specifications, and drawings as part of a multidisciplinary team.

Candidates should have ABET-accredited BSCE/MSCE and 7+ years of substation experience, with proficiency in MathCad, STAAD PRO, SAP2000, and related tools.

Qualifications

• BSCE or MSCE from ABET-accredited program with strong background in materials behavior, structural analysis, steel design and reinforced concrete design.
• 7+ years as practicing structural engineer, preferably on electrical substations.
• Ability to communicate effectively with the client with appropriate level of technical detail.
• Ability to perform occasional walk-downs and site visits for scoping meetings.
• Experience writing and supporting calculations for structural engineering.
• Ability to complete assignments within budget and schedule with high accuracy.
• Knowledge of structural analysis for supports, loads and design integrity.
• Familiarity with design codes IBC, ASCE 7, AISC, ACI 318.
• Experience with creating technical plans, blueprints, drawings, and models.
• Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
• PE license is valued but not required.
• Experience in design of light industrial building structures

Responsibilities

• Apply knowledge of materials, structural analysis, steel and reinforced concrete design on power transmission projects.
• Perform structural analysis and detailed design of steel frames, connections, concrete members, equipment and foundations.
• Develop integrated structural designs and supporting calculations for planned work.
• Interface with clients and communicate technical information.
• Prepare technical specifications for structural materials.
• Review others' work, including calculations and drawings, for quality and accuracy.
• Coordinate with engineers, project managers, client personnel and suppliers to ensure timely design.
• Review existing facilities to propose upgrades and replacements with findings for clients.
• Share knowledge with peers via Communities of Practice to develop your career.
• Travel to client and vendor offices for design reviews and field verification.
