Job summary

Sargent & Lundy is seeking a Substation Engineer Consultant to lead project teams in the design, modification, and analysis of high voltage substations. The role involves coordinating with engineers, designers, estimators, and schedulers to deliver quality results on time and within budget.

You will mentor team members, drive scope management, and support business development while collaborating with staff nationwide.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science degree from an ABET-accredited engineering program.
• Experience in Project Management of Utility Transmission, Substation or Energy Projects.
• Knowledge of engineering standards including NEC, NESC, NEMA, IEC, IEEE and ANSI.
• 10+ years in design engineering and/or management of high voltage utility projects with scopes, layouts, design basis, equipment/material selection, calculations and specifications.
• Experience across EPC, Owners Engineer, Traditional or Joint Ventures contracts.
• Experience as firm/client liaison in a support, engineer or management role.
• Excellent written and verbal communication; experience in writing proposals.
• Experience in cost allocation and control, estimating, proposal preparation, risk assessment programs and techniques.
• Must be bilingual in Spanish and English (Read, Speak, and Write).

Responsibilities

• Manage project teams of engineers, designers, estimators, controls and scheduling professionals across high voltage substations.
• Direct coordination of detailed design phases for electrical engineering work.
• Coordinate with civil, structural, and transmission teams on projects.
• Lead efforts to ensure on-time, on-budget, high-quality project delivery.
• Identify out-of-scope work and prepare scope changes for client approval.
• Coordinate design activities to meet specifications, codes, and client requirements.
• Collaborate with staff locally and nationwide.
• Prepare clear technical reports and studies per client and Sargent & Lundy formats.
• Review work by others including calculations, drawings, and specifications.
• Communicate with clients for project and account support.
• Support business development opportunities with existing and potential clients.
• Review scopes of work, proposals, procurement specs, and contract documents.
• Develop and mentor team members.
