Job summary

Sargent & Lundy is seeking a senior structural engineer to contribute to power transmission projects. You will apply expertise in materials behavior, structural analysis, steel design, and reinforced concrete to upgrade substations and support client recommendations.

You'll collaborate with a multidisciplinary team, prepare design calculations and specifications, and interface with clients. The role requires travel to client sites and periodic in-office work on a hybrid schedule.

Qualifications

• Requires BSCE or MSCE from ABET-approved program with focus in materials/structural behavior
• 12+ years of practicing structural engineering experience, preferably subsystems upgrades
• Effective client communication with technical detail
• Walk-downs and site visits for scoping meetings
• Experience writing and supporting structural calculations and design docs
• Ability to complete assignments within budget and schedule with accuracy
• Knowledge of practical structural engineering including analysis for supports, loads and design integrity
• Proficiency with design codes (IBC, ASCE 7, AISC, ACI 318) and related standards
• Proficient with design tools: MathCad, STAAD PRO, SAP2000, SAFE, RISA 3D, RISA Floor
• Strong written, verbal, interpersonal communication

Responsibilities

• Apply knowledge of materials, structural analysis, and steel/concrete design to power transmission upgrades
• Perform structural analysis and detailed design of steel frames, concrete members, equipment and foundations
• Develop integrated structural designs and supporting calculations
• Interface with the client and communicate technical information
• Prepare specifications for structural materials
• Review others' work, calculations, and drawings for accuracy
• Coordinate with engineers, PMs, client personnel, and suppliers
• Review existing facilities to propose upgrades and present findings
• Engage in peer-learning through Communities of Practice
• Travel to client and vendor offices for design reviews and field verification
