Job summary

WSP USA is seeking an Experienced Substation Structural Designer for the Power Delivery Substation Civil/Structural Group. Positions are open in Freeport, ME; Hallowell, ME; New York, NY; Syracuse, NY; Ann Arbor, MI; and New Albany, OH.

You will provide technical design and CADD support for civil/structural substation work, generating precise drawings, reports, and specifications to meet industry standards.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma.
• Minimum of 7 years of relevant post education experience in discipline with prior drafting and design support experience.
• Knowledge of drafting and design support principles, practices, process, methods and techniques.
• Knowledge of relevant codes, regulations, compliance practices, and record-keeping requirements.
• Ability to make technical computations and calculations involving geometry and mathematical concepts.
• Capable interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others.
• Competent self-leadership with attention to detail and prioritization.
• Ability to work independently or in a team to meet objectives.
• Analytical mindset to evaluate situations and make decisions.
• Proficiency with technical writing, office automation, software, technology, math principles, spreadsheets, and tools.
• Ability to apply technical knowledge to solve design problems and ensure safety.

Responsibilities

• Collect, compile, and analyze data from site, surveys, drawings, and specs to support drafting.
• Use 3D CADD software and coordinate with engineers to produce precise drawings.
• Provide technical design assistance with proper fit, form, and function per standards.
• Verify calculations and resolve design discrepancies, escalating issues as needed.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams on project phases and tasks.
• Ensure plans meet city, state, and federal regulations.
• Prepare multiple design versions for review by engineers.
• Specify dimensions, materials, and procedures per contract requirements.
• Engage with engineers on project scope, checks, and tasks.
• Apply analytical techniques to modify or redesign designs as needed.
• Coordinate with client/contractor personnel for drafting reviews.
• Adhere to WSP Code of Conduct and company policies.
• Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
