Job summary

WSP is seeking an Intermediate Substation Structural Designer for its Power Delivery Substation Civil/Structural Group. The role supports local technical design and CADD tasks across multiple offices, including Freeport, ME, and other U.S. locations.

This position involves producing designs, drawings, specifications, and material lists to meet industry standards, working with engineers to resolve details, and adhering to project schedules and regulatory requirements.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma required.
• Minimum 5 years of relevant post-education experience in drafting and design support.
• Familiar with drafting/design principles, practices, processes, methods, and techniques.
• Knowledge of codes, regulations, compliance, and record-keeping requirements.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills for technical and non-technical audiences.
• Ability to learn new techniques and work multiple tasks with good prioritization.
• Ability to work independently or in a team.
• Analytical mindset to evaluate data and solve problems.
• Proficiency with technical writing, office software, and spreadsheets.

Responsibilities

• Assist with collecting and analyzing data from sites, blueprints, drawings, and specifications for drafting and design.
• Use 3D CAD software under supervision to prepare precise drawings for basic-to-moderate complexity projects.
• Provide design assistance focusing on fit, form, and function using GD&T and quantity calculations.
• Verify calculations, interpret plans and specifications, and escalate issues as needed.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to execute project work.
• Ensure plans comply with city, state, and federal regulations.
• Prepare multiple design versions for review by engineers.
