Job summary

WSP is seeking an Experienced Substation Structural Designer for our Power Delivery Substation Civil/Structural Group. The role supports design teams in Freeport, ME or at locations across the U.S., delivering precise 3D CAD drawings and technical documentation.

You will analyze site data, collaborate with engineers, ensure compliance with codes, and contribute to multiple project phases with strong safety and quality focus.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma.
• 7+ years of post-education drafting and design support experience.
• Knowledge of drafting and design principles and relevant codes.
• Ability to perform geometric computations and interpret plans.
• Strong communication and teamwork skills.
• Self-directed with attention to detail and multitasking.
• Ability to work independently or in a team to meet objectives.
• Analytical thinker with problem-solving ability.
• Experience with safety guidelines and regulatory policies.
• Willingness to travel occasionally.

Responsibilities

• Collect, compile, and analyze site data and drawings to support drafting and design.
• Use 3D CAD to prepare precise drawings for projects of basic to moderate complexity.
• Follow standard practices to ensure geometry, fit, form, and function accuracy.
• Verify calculations and interpretations of plans and specifications.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to execute project work.
• Ensure plans comply with city, state, and federal regulations.
• Prepare multiple design versions for engineer review.
• Specify dimensions, materials, and procedures per contract.
• Work with engineers on project phases and tasks.
• Apply analysis software to solve engineering problems and redesigns.
• Coordinate with client and contractor for drafting reviews as needed.
• Adhere to company code of conduct and policies.
• Perform additional duties as required.
