Job summary
Sargent & Lundy is seeking a Lead Substation Engineer to apply expertise in protective relaying and controls for HV/EHV substations. You will guide design teams, prepare relay philosophies, SCADA concepts, and coordinate with clients and vendors. The role includes mentorship, design reviews, and occasional travel within a hybrid work setup.
The position requires a BS in engineering, 12+ years of substation design experience at 138kV+, and a PE license. ABET accreditation is preferred.
Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science Engineering degree required.
- 12+ years experience designing substations at 138kV and above.
- PE license.
- Experience leading engineering teams and client liaison.
- Experience with relay calculations documentation.
- Familiarity with NEC, NESC, NEMA, IEEE, ANSI.
Responsibilities
- Lead protection and controls engineering design efforts for substations.
- Coordinate with engineers, project managers, client personnel and suppliers.
- Prepare relay calculations and I/O connections.
- Develop relay philosophies and SCADA/telecom concepts.
- Review and mentor junior staff and perform design reviews.
- Travel to client/vendor sites as needed for reviews and site verification.
- Hybrid work arrangement with three days in office and two remote days.
