Job summary

Sargent & Lundy is seeking a Lead Substation Engineer to apply deep knowledge of protective relaying and control systems for HV/EHV substations in a hybrid work setting. You will guide teams, coordinate with clients, and oversee design reviews, with responsibilities spanning from line diagrams to SCADA concepts.

Applicants should bring 12+ years of substations experience, a BS in engineering, and a PE license.

Qualifications

• This position requires a Bachelor of Science Engineering degree.
• 12 or more years experience designing substations at 138kV and above.
• PE license.
• Experience with serving as firm/client liaison in a support or lead engineering role.
• Experience in writing and providing support documentation for relay calculations.
• Experience with design techniques, tools, and principles for technical plans, blueprints, drawings, and models.
• Proficiency with SKM, ETAP, ASPEN, CDEGS, or vendor software.
• Familiarity with NEC, NESC, NEMA, IEEE and ANSI codes.
• Experience with protective relay equipment (SEL, ABB, GE, Areva, Basler).
• Proficiency with MS Office and strong written/verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Work on modifications and upgrades to substations, including calculations, designs, and specifications.
• Prepare relaying philosophies and configurations for SCADA and communications.
• Guide engineers and designers in protection and controls engineering design.
• Support challenging assignments and troubleshoot engineering issues.
• Design single line diagrams, relaying/metering diagrams, and DC schematic diagrams.
• Prepare engineering studies and perform independent reviews of work.
• Coordinate with engineers, project managers, clients, and suppliers to ensure timely designs.
• Review existing facilities to propose upgrades and present recommendations.
• Mentor less experienced engineers and participate in Communities of Practice.
