Job summary

Nexus Engineering Group seeks a Senior Substation Engineer – Protection & Controls to lead HV substation design across single-line diagrams, schematics, and wiring documentation. You’ll coordinate with clients, vendors, and cross‑discipline teams, ensuring constructible packages and high‑quality deliverables.

Bring 6+ years in protection and control design, CAD proficiency (AutoCAD/MicroStation), and a strong grasp of IEEE/ANSI/NEC/NESC standards.

Qualifications

• BS in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, or related field.
• 6+ years in substation, power delivery, protection and controls, or electrical design.
• Advanced knowledge of substation protection and controls design documentation.
• Strong working knowledge of IEEE, ANSI, NEC, and NESC standards.
• Proficiency with CAD tools (AutoCAD and/or MicroStation).
• Demonstrated project leadership on substation projects.
• A valid driver’s license for site visits.

Responsibilities

• Lead protection, control, and wiring design for high‑voltage substation projects; create SLDs, schematics, wiring diagrams, and constructible packages.
• Develop and oversee protection and control deliverables: relay schematics, wiring docs, schedules, nameplates, and related docs.
• Apply client design standards and coordinate across disciplines, clients, and vendors.
• Collaborate with drafters/designers/PMs to resolve design issues and deliver complete packages.
• Formal check small-to-medium project deliverables per client processes and standards.
• Provide input to project schedules when acting as lead, managing cross-discipline interdependencies.
• Mentor less‑experienced engineers and staff; reinforce sound design decisions with clients.
