Job summary

Nexus Engineering Group is seeking a Senior Substation Engineer – Protection & Controls to lead the protection, control, and wiring design for high-voltage substation projects, delivering single-line diagrams, schematics, wiring diagrams, and complete CAD packages.

You will coordinate with engineers, drafters, clients, and vendors, check colleagues' work, mentor junior staff, and contribute to the full EPCm lifecycle from concept through startup. Some travel to project sites required.

Qualifications

• BS in Electrical Engineering or related field
• 6+ years substation, protection & controls, or electrical design experience
• Advanced knowledge of substation protection and controls design
• CAD proficiency (AutoCAD and/or MicroStation)
• Valid driver's license for site visits
• PE license preferred

Responsibilities

• Lead protection, control, and wiring design of substation projects — SLDs, schematics, wiring diagrams, CAD packages
• Develop and oversee protection and control deliverables: relay schematics, wiring docs, schedules, nameplates
• Apply advanced design standards and client-specific requirements across projects
• Coordinate with drafters, designers, disciplines, clients, vendors, and PMs to deliver constructible packages
• Perform formal checking of small-to-medium project deliverables
• Provide input to project schedules when acting in a lead capacity
• Provide clear technical direction and mentoring to less-experienced engineers and designers
• Strengthen client confidence through sound design decisions and coordination
