Job summary

Nexus Engineering Group, a leading EPCm engineering firm, seeks a Senior Substation Engineer – Protection & Controls to lead the protection, control, and wiring design on HV substation projects. You will create single-line diagrams, schematics, and full constructible drawing packages, coordinating with clients, vendors, and cross-discipline teams.

You will mentor junior engineers, ensure design conformity to client standards, and drive project success from concept through startup.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or related field.
• 6+ years of substation, power delivery, protection and controls, or electrical design experience.
• Advanced knowledge of substation protection and controls design — single-line diagrams, schematics, wiring documentation.
• Strong working knowledge of IEEE, ANSI, NEC, and NESC standards.
• Proficiency with CAD tools including AutoCAD and/or MicroStation.
• Demonstrated project leadership on substation projects.
• Valid driver’s license; travel to sites is required.

Responsibilities

• Lead protection, control, and wiring design of substation projects, including single-line diagrams and schematics.
• Develop and oversee protection and control deliverables: relay schematics, wiring docs, cable schedules, nameplates.
• Apply design standards and client documentation requirements across projects.
• Coordinate with drafters, disciplines, clients, vendors, and managers to deliver constructible packages.
• Perform formal checking of deliverables according to client processes.
• Provide input to project schedules and lead capacity when applicable.
• Mentor less-experienced engineers and staff to raise technical proficiency.
• Strengthen client confidence through sound design decisions and coordination.
