Job summary

Nexus Engineering Group is seeking a Senior Substation Engineer – Protection & Controls to lead protection, control, and wiring design for high-voltage substations. You will coordinate across disciplines, clients, and vendors, and mentor junior engineers. This role supports a full-service EPCm environment from concept through startup.

You will oversee deliverables, ensure adherence to IEEE/ANSI/NEC/NESC standards, and contribute to project schedules while traveling to project sites as needed.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering or related discipline.
• 6+ years of substation, power delivery, protection and controls, or electrical design experience.
• Advanced knowledge of substation protection and controls design—single-line diagrams, schematics, wiring documentation.
• Strong working knowledge of IEEE, ANSI, NEC, and NESC standards.
• Proficiency with CAD, including AutoCAD and/or MicroStation.
• Demonstrated project leadership on substation projects.
• Valid driver's license—travel to project/substation sites is essential.

Responsibilities

• Lead protection, control, and wiring design of substation projects across varying sizes and complexities.
• Develop and oversee relay and control schematics, wiring documentation, cabling, and related project deliverables.
• Apply client standards and project-specific documentation requirements across projects.
• Coordinate with drafters, designers, other disciplines, clients, vendors, and PMs to deliver complete, constructible packages.
• Perform formal checking of project deliverables and provide technical direction and mentorship to staff.
