WSP USA is seeking a Substation Senior Electrical Engineer (Station P&C) for our Ft. Mill, South Carolina office.

You will contribute to the Power & Energy Substation Team by delivering design, analysis, and construction support for high- voltage substations from 12 kV to 345 kV. The role emphasizes applying P&C engineering principles, leading technical work, and guiding junior engineers while adhering to industry codes and safety standards.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering (or equivalent experience).
• 5 to 7 years of relevant post education experience as an electrical engineer providing design deliverables for large capital projects.
• Proficient knowledge of substation P&C engineering principles, practices, process, design/build, and project work-related issues for 12 kV to 345 kV substations.
• Experience with infrastructure planning, design, and construction, including active involvement in rehabilitation and new design projects.
• Working knowledge of relevant engineering laws, codes, regulations, compliance practices, and record-keeping requirements.
• Ability to perform technical computations and calculations involving electrical engineering principles and plans.
• Project management experience with small to mid-level substation projects including tracking hours and expenses.
• Ability to plan and conduct inspections on medium-to-high voltage substations with QA/QC adherence.
• Effective interpersonal and communication skills with engineering and non-engineering audiences.
• Self-leadership with attention to detail and multi-tasking in a dynamic environment.
• Ability to work independently and guide junior team members while ensuring QA/QC.
• Proficiency with technical writing, office automation, discipline-specific design software, and related tools.
• Developed problem-solving skills to analyze data and reach practical solutions.
• Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and policy adherence.
• Ability to work schedules that may extend beyond the typical workweek; occasional travel may be required.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical assistance for due diligence, design, and construction support of station P&C for 12 kV to 345 kV substations.
• Review third-party design documents, procurement lists, and project plans.
• Support senior engineers with research and recommendations on components identified in design requirements.
• Verify site characteristics and provide technical input on P&C engineering, testing, and maintenance.
• Develop electrical calculations for loads, sizing, one-line diagrams, and protective relaying.
• Prepare plans, specs, and cost estimates; update protection schemes and coordination with owners and clients.
• Collaborate with cross-discipline teams to execute projects across multiple concurrent efforts.
• Prepare data visuals, tables, charts, and reports for data interpretation and presentation.
• Provide guidance and training to entry-level engineers.
• Assist in data analysis from field investigations and develop risk mitigation action plans.
